This school house, built in 1893, had been in use by the Lyndhurst school system up until 1980. Now a museum, it replaced a two story structure which was erected in 1849 to replace the original school.

The ‘Little Red Schoolhouse,’ as it has come to be known, has
been the location for special events hosted by the Society,
including Strawberry Festivals, craft fairs, Civil War re-
enactments, and special visits from ‘Eleanor Roosevelt,’ ‘Abigail
Adams,’ ‘George Washington,’ and ‘Thomas Jefferson.’

Directions
The Schoolhouse is located on the
corner of Fern and Riverside
Avenues in Lyndhurst, NJ.
From Route 3 West: Exit at Riverside Avenue. At the
bottom of the exit make a left. Go through one traffic light,
schoolhouse is on your left.
From Route 3 East: Exit at Park Avenue. Make a right at
the end of the off ramp, at Riverside Ave make a left,
follow directions above.
